God

Muslims believe that God exists and that He created everything that we see around us. Every plant, every animal, every insect, the sun, the moon, the sea, the sky, every planet and every star. They believe God created all human beings: black and white, rich and poor, young and old, Christian, Sikh, Hindu, Jew, Atheist and Muslim, whether they believe in God or whether they choose not to.

Muslims believe that there is one God alone, He is Merciful and Compassionate and that there is nothing and no-one that is even remotely similar to Him. The word for God in the Arabic language is ‘Allah’.So some Christians and Jews in the Arab world may refer to God as ‘Allah’ also.

Muslims believe that human beings do not know what God looks like; no human being has ever seen Him, so to try and guess what He looks like, or try and draw Him would not be doing Him justice! Because of this Muslims do not have pictures or statues of God anywhere.

Muslims do however know some of the attributes of God, and this is through reading the Muslim scripture – the Quran. In the Quran, Muslims believe that God has described something about Himself through His names. There are 99 different names in the Quran, which all describe the qualities of God. Muslims call these ‘God’s Beautiful Names’.

Here are some of His Beautiful Names

Muslims believe that God is so merciful and so loving, but He is also the most powerful and can do anything. They should not only turn to Him when they have done something wrong, but also thank Him for everything that they have and ask Him for help whenever they need it.
